Diquis has commercial quality on its grain color red, highperformance, architecture erect, drought-tolerant and intermediate to the main pathogens of economic importance in Costa Rica. The Diquís name means Rio Grande, in Térraba language, “Di” means: River and “ques” means: large.

It was introduced to Costa Rica in 2003, in a nursery of red lines F7 for tolerance to drought, coming from the program of beansfrom the International Center for Tropical Agriculture (CIAT).

MR 14215-9 line was developed in the first cycle of recurrent selection for resistance to drought for the red grain. The mix where Diquís was obtained was:

the progenitors of this mixing line is 15 SEAhas a source of resistance to drought with much influenced from the Durango race.

(Appetite and SEA 5), the G21212 is first selected for tolerance to low phosphorus line. Later itshowed that it was good for drying.

It provides a good capacity to fill the grain.

Diquis, was evaluated on 2003 / 2009, in 31 tests and 33 lots of verification.
